About:
From 1965-1966 the Indonesian genocide took place taking the lives of an estimated 500,000 to one million alleged communists. After a successful coup, control of the country went to the military’s ranking officer Muhammad Suharto. Suharto went on to strip the government of its powers and used militia forces to exert his will. To start Suharto’s “New Order” an anti-communist purge began that targeted religious minorities, ethnic Chinese, anyone assumed to be leftist, or anyone critical of the military.
