253 Film Festival (2016)

2016 – 253 Film Festival

An award for the 253 Film Festival that is shaped like a film reel. The Reel is standing on its side and has real film reel sticking out of it.

Client: The Grand Cinema
Materials: Wood, acrylic, film (Toy Story)
Tools: Epilog Laser Cutter and Chop Saw

Description:
The 253 Film Festival requested a film themed award for their contest winners. This was my first film festival award design and features a strong resemblance to classic film reels. The body is made of wood and the film inside is actual film from the movie Toy Story that I had. The placard is made of acrylic and features fun details such as the ticket stub number that is the date of the festival.
Challenges:
Taking the 2D design and making it a functioning 3D object was fairly difficult. Also ensuring that the film sat in the same place and was of uniform length for all the awards was a challenge as well.
Impact:
This was the first award we had done for the film community in Tacoma. As a huge film lover I was happy to help out the filmmakers of Tacoma and get a foot in the door for FabLab with the arts community.
