One Day Turn Around: Grand Cinema 20th Anniversary

2017 – Grand Cinema 20th Anniversary

Laser cut 20th Anniversary award shaped like the Grand Cinema elephant

Short Description: This year was the 20th anniversary for The Grand Cinema, a local theater that we frequently collaborate with at work. To celebrate I made this award out of wood and clear acrylic. The design was done in Corel Draw and was cut out with an Epilog laser cutter
Rationale: I chose this artifact to be in my portfolio because it encompasses a lot of different aspects of my job (2D design and physical fabrication work) and shows a commitment to the arts community in Tacoma.
Challenges: We found out about the Grand Cinema’s birthday the day of, so this award had to be designed and executed in a day. I completed this award in roughly 2 hours.
Impact: This job was done with my own spare time, but I delivered it as a gift from my place of work FabLab Tacoma. This helped solidify the bond we already have with the Grand Cinema, showed that those in the science community appreciate the arts, and helped to ensure that they will be returning collaborators with FabLab. Plus, it was just a nice thing to do for a theater that we all like to go to and already support. They even gave us a shout out on Instagram!
