About
Who am I?
My name is Elysa Saito and I am a Tacoma based artist who focuses on data driven art. Politics and history are my favorite subjects to tackle, and I use a mixture of digital art and traditional art to do so. To me, visual art is the best way to begin discussions on difficult or controversial topics. While making visually striking art is the easiest way to get a call to arms response from viewers, the pieces need to be grounded in fact and reality. Thoroughly researching the subject matter for my art or visualizations is as important as the final product. My greatest goal is for my pieces to be emotionally engaging while also being factual and informative. To see my qualifications and job experience head on over to my resume page. I have previously worked for the AVID program in the Puyallup School District and currently am employed at FabLab Tacoma.

What do I like to do?
When I’m not creating digital collages about historical atrocities or making data visualizations about the state of abortion rights in America, I like doing watercolor paintings of handsome actors or drag queens. I don’t always make emotionally heavy pieces or frivolous fan art though! I also enjoy designing and fabricating unique awards for local businesses and non-profits. Outside of design and fabrication work, I enjoy cooking, gaming, reading and predicting the Academy Awards winners. You’re most likely to catch me at The Grand Cinema or at Science Fiction and Fantasy conventions because I enjoy any and all indoor activities.
Want to get in contact?
I am always looking for new issues or lesser known historical topics to create pieces about, so please feel free to contact me about a topic you’d like to see me research and create a piece for. I love learning and feel it is an artist’s responsibility to be as informed as possible to create good art.
